Open Day at Dornoch
On the 16th March 2017 the Shetland Sheep Society will hold an open day in Dornoch.
Meeting first at the Dornoch Social Club, at 10 am, the morning will be taken up by a talk about wool quality, followed by a general discussion on fleece, wool preparation, and commercial outlets. Lunch will be provided. At 2.pm we will meet in the Glebe Field for a flock and ram inspection. We are running a competition for a knitted, woven or felted cushion cover, using Shetland Wool.

Interim Chairman Appointed

Under Section 5.1 of the Constitution the Committee are pleased to confirm they have appointed Andy Harwood as Interim Chair.
Andy will serve until the conclusion of the next AGM.
We thank Andy very much for his support and look forward to working with him.
At the Committee Meeting, Sunday 8th November 2015, your committee agreed unanimously to carry out an update/review of our constitution.
We want to start this process by asking members to make comment and express views on the current constitution. The constitution along with the appendices can be found on the website, or you may contact any member of committee for a paper copy.
Please forward your comments by 31st December 2015, by e-mail or letter to Tony Bennett (details inside front cover of newsletter) who is collating these comments on behalf of committee.
Champion of Champions
Many congratulations to Philip Cowen and his stunning moorit gimmer Wadley Ivy in winning the 2015 Champion of Champions
and to Suzanne Meikle for taking the reserve with another lovely moorit ewe Brae Xaria
The Committee has appointed a Group to be responsible for all matters
relating to Wool within our Society.
Royal Bath & West 2015
Congratulations to Edna Thomas and David Humphreys who's shearling ewe won the Shetland Championship as well as the Interbreeds Wool on the Hoof Championship and Interbreeds Reserve Champion.
Tracey Chapman's shearling ram was Shetland Reserve Champion.

SOCIETY FLOCK BOOK
In addition to the excellent On-Line Flock Book a paper copy version is printed annually in January. Each Volume contains the details of all Shetland sheep registered during the year, together with rams inspected and approved; also included are some interesting statistics on the SSS Flock in general. The Flock Book costs £12 inc.p&p and is only available to members by ordering a copy (before November 30th) from the Registrations Secretary via the Registrations Application Form.

Further to the resolution passed at the 2014 AGM the constitution has been updated to reflect that the number of inspectors for ram approval has changed from three to two. See constitution Appendix B HERE.

Shetland Fleece wins Supreme Champion at NSA Sheep 2014
Congratulations to Lynne & David White who continued their successful year by winning the Supreme Champion fleece at the NSA Sheep 2014 event held at Malvern Three Counties showground on 30 July 2014.
The winning fleece was from a light grey gulmoget gimmer and judged by Steven Spencer from the wool board. He said the coloured section was the strongest of the seven sections and put forward a coloured fleece as Reserve Supreme Champion as well.
Shetland Success at Herts County Show
On Saturday 24 May, Ashby Finch, bred by Lynne & David White, was Interbreed Champion and Drumoak ewe lamb (no name yet, bred by Cameron Wainwright) was reserve Interbreed, with Mr Pennington judging. Very large classes as well.
And in the Primitive Championship on Sunday, Ashby Frankie was primitive champion. Jenny Arnold judging, and again, large classes.
Well done to all concerned, a great result for the Shetland breed and the breeders!

New Website Launch
